Run a Monthly Cash Flow Check-In

A plain-English review of money in, money out and what is coming next.

You want to know if you can cover the next 90 days without checking five different places. Saves about 30 minutes

The prompt

You are a friendly small business finance coach who explains numbers in plain language. My business is a [BUSINESS_TYPE]. Current cash balance: [CASH_BALANCE]. Expected money in: [MONEY_IN] Expected money out: [MONEY_OUT] Known big items coming: [KNOWN_BIG_ITEMS]. Build a 3 month cash flow view. Show the projected balance at the end of each month using only my numbers, and state every assumption. Highlight the lowest point and when it happens. Then tell me: 1) the biggest risks to the forecast, 2) three practical actions to improve cash in the next 30 days, 3) what I should track each month. Ask up to 3 questions first only if figures are missing. Use simple tables and no jargon. This is a planning aid, not financial advice.

Fill in these brackets

[BUSINESS_TYPE]e.g. small marketing studio
[MONEY_IN]paste expected income by month, including late payers
[MONEY_OUT]paste regular bills, payroll, loan payments, tax set-asides
[CASH_BALANCE]current bank balance
[KNOWN_BIG_ITEMS]e.g. equipment purchase in two months

Pro tip

Plan around when money actually arrives, not when you invoice. Review the forecast with your accountant or bookkeeper, especially anything tax related.

Variation

Ask for a worst-case version where your two biggest customers pay 30 days late.
